Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and yourvoice.now LLC, which operates YourVoice.Now. They cover the YourVoice.Now mobile apps (iOS and Android) and this website.

By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you do not agree with them, do not use the service.

The short version

YourVoice.Now helps you follow bills before the U.S. Congress, record where you stand on them, and reach your representatives through their own official channels. It is free. We do not sell your data and we do not run ads. You can delete your account at any time. What we publish is information about legislation, not legal or voting advice — and we cannot promise that an office reads or answers what you send it.

Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. The service is intended for adults, and it is built around U.S. congressional districts — it is of little use outside the United States. One account per person.

Your account

You sign in with an email address and password, or through Apple or Google. You are responsible for keeping those credentials to yourself and for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, email support@yourvoice.now and change your password.

Keep your state and district accurate. They decide which representatives the app shows you, and they are what the district-level figures are counted into.

Identity verification

You can verify your identity to confirm that you are a real constituent of the district you claim — which is what keeps district-level figures worth anything. We use Plaid for this. Plaid checks the documents you give it and returns the result, along with the state and district it confirmed; your documents are never sent to us. Verification is optional and the rest of the service works without it. What we keep is set out in the Privacy Policy.

The information in the app

Bill text, sponsors, statuses and roll-call votes come from Congress.gov and other public sources. We reproduce them as faithfully as we can, but the public record can lag a chamber by a day or more and is occasionally wrong at the source. Summaries and topic labels are reading aids, not the legislation.

Nothing in the app is legal advice, and none of it replaces the official record. Check Congress.gov before you rely on anything that matters.

Contacting your representatives

When you choose to contact a representative, the app opens that office’s own official contact form or website. We do not deliver messages on your behalf and we do not see what you write — it goes to the office directly, under whatever terms and privacy policy that office publishes. Whether you get a reply is up to them. Contact links come from public sources; if one is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

User license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the YourVoice.Now apps and this site for your own civic use, for as long as you keep to these terms. The apps and the site remain ours.

That license does not extend to:

• Copying, selling, renting or redistributing the apps or any part of them
• Reverse-engineering or decompiling them, except where the law expressly allows it
• Scraping or bulk-downloading our data, reselling it, or driving the API with automated tools
• Using our name, logo or design without written permission

The legislative data itself is public. Take it from Congress.gov, which is where we get it.

What you contribute

The positions you take, the bills you follow, and anything you send us as feedback stay yours. You give us permission to use them to run the service: your position is counted into the district and national figures the app shows, and your feedback helps us improve the product. Those figures are counts — they cannot be traced back to you.

Acceptable use

Do not:

• Create accounts for people who do not exist, or claim a district you do not live in
• Automate, scrape or deliberately overload the service
• Probe, break into or interfere with our systems, or with anyone else’s account
• Use the service to harass, threaten, defraud or impersonate anyone
• Hold yourself out as a representative, a staffer, or as YourVoice.Now
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose

Honest constituency is what everything the app reports rests on. Falsifying it deliberately is the surest way to lose an account.

Independence

YourVoice.Now is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the U.S. Congress, any government agency, or any political party, campaign or PAC. Bills and representatives are presented on the record, without endorsement.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like — Settings → Delete Account in the app, or see how to delete your account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we are legally required to close, or that is being used to attack the service; where it is practical and lawful we will say why. We may also change or retire features, and if we ever shut the service down we will give account holders notice by email.

No warranty

The service is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the legislative data in it is complete and current at any given moment. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, yourvoice.now LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the service — including a message an office never answered, a vote or deadline you missed, or a record that turned out to be wrong. Because the service is free, our total liability to you is capped at $100. Some places do not allow limits like these, in which case they apply only as far as they are permitted.

Governing law

These terms are governed by U.S. federal law and by the law of the State of Delaware, where yourvoice.now LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still stands.

Changes

If we change these terms we will update the effective date above. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will notify account holders by email before they take effect. Using the service after that means you accept the new terms.
